PREP PROGRAM EVALUATION

Progress of the PREP Scholars will be evaluated on an ongoing basis by the Program Director, the Program Coordinator, and the PREP Steering Committee.

The Steering Committe will provide oversight of the program and guidance to the Program Director. The Steering Committe will set the academic policies for the training program, recruit and select applicants for the program, and match trainees with appropriate advisors and guide students in designing individual programs of training and monitor and evaluate the trainees' research experience.

PREP Methods and Measures
PREP program activities will increase both the the Scholar's preparedness and likelihood to pursue biomedical graduate work. A variety of methods will be used to provide ongoing feedback. Every Scholar will be required to submit a progress report every six months to evaluate progress and achievement. Progress Reports will be reviewed by the Program Director, Program Coordinator, and Mentor to focus discussions on the Scholars progress. An annual review through the Case Human Resources Department will provide additional evaluation of the Scholar's personnel role.

A final measure of evaluation will be the letter of recommendation for Scholars who choose to pursue doctoral study. The Program Director will write differentiated letters of recommendation at the end of the PREP that clearly assess Scholars' achievements and promise. This letter will be completed after review of the mentor's evaluation of research skills and interests, discussion of the scholar's future goals, grades in undergraduate and graduate courses, and GRE scores. Scholars will also be presented to the Case Biomedical Sciences Training Program (BSTP) admissions committee for their action in accepting candidates into Case's biomedical graduate programs.
